Grades 6-8: US History-Based Writing Lessons with Fix It! Grammar

TUITION: $850 for entire school year

Non-refundable registration fee of $50 due by July 1.

Remaining tuition of $800 due by August 1.

WHEN: Wednesday mornings 10:30-12:00

REQUIRED BOOKS:

  • US History-Based Writing Lessons -- (student/teacher combo)
  • Fix It! Grammar, Level 4 (Mowgli and Shere Khan) -- student/teacher combo 
  • UPDATED literature list: (These will round out a full language-arts course.)
    • The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
    • Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes OR Early Thunder by Jean Fritz
    • Amos Fortune, Free Man by Elizabeth Yates
    • Tom Sawyer OR Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
    • The Call of the Wild by Jack London
    • Little Women OR Little Men by Louisa May Alcott
    • assorted short stories by O. Henry and others


Students will complete assignments at home that will include:

  • writing keyword outlines
  • practicing style elements (varied sentence openers, strong verbs, descriptive adjectives, etc.)
  • writing paragraphs with topic and clincher sentences
  • crafting powerful introductions and conclusions
  • reacting to literature
  • writing stories from pictures
  • daily, bite-sized grammar lessons 


Important details:

  • All parents are strongly encouraged to attend. Parents who are new to IEW are REQUIRED to attend.
  • Parents will sign a contract with the teacher that outlines expectations for both parties.
  • There will be no tuition refunds after August 1 unless the teacher is unable to continue teaching.
